Here’s a throwback to one of my favorite set pieces in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. We had slotted two days in the schedule for shooting a scene where Jack and Barbossa meet up in order to continue their journey together in the third act. But two weeks before we were supposed to shoot it, we still didn’t have a solve. I remember late night conferences with writer Jeff Nathanson, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman and Disney’s Sean Bailey and Sam Dickerman, figuring it out - and at the same time being in the middle of principal photography(!). Jeff constructed a hilarious wedding scene but then the problem was that we had nowhere to shoot it and little time to build anything. Production designer, Nigel Phelps, came to the rescue with the idea of the wedding taking place inside a washed up whale carcass - a simple set that could be built in time. Add Johnny’s genius ad-libbing and we had ourselves a scene. One of my favorites in the movies ☠️☠️☠️ #tbt #potc #moviemagic
