This previously unrecorded 1917 drawing by CRW #Nevinson – Britain’s leading WWI artist – has not been seen in public since it was gifted by the artist directly to the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation that year.

In the aftermath of the First World War, theatre impresario and philanthropist Stoll was at the forefront of how best to support the troops returning home with physical and mental injury. He set about compiling an album of original contributions from the foremost #artists, musicians and authors of the day – with the intention that the #book be reproduced in a limited edition of 50 copies. He was met with a phenomenal response, including ‘Ramming Home a Heavy Shell’, though sadly, the project never came to fruition due to spiralling costs.

The work will now be offered as part of our Modern & Post-War British Art #auction on 19 June, with proceeds to benefit the Stoll Foundation – the leading provider of housing and support to vulnerable and disabled veterans.
