Erin from @theheartandhaven here! Since we were renovating in pieces, sometimes priorities had to be shifted since some renos affected each other. For example, replacing the hardwood floors was a priority but the fireplace update was not. However, I felt both needed to be done together so there was no extra work down the line. The staircase in this room was the last major thing left to do in the inside of the house and it was completed earlier this year. SWIPE for the before. We replaced the metal railings with a wood banister and ended up having someone refinish the stairs (the original oak was still in very good condition). The hardwood floors that we had installed years earlier are maple, so I opted to go for a very deep brown/black stain for the stairs so that the difference in wood grain would be less noticeable.
