The exhibition will be held at Rheinsprung 1, in Basel, just a few steps away from Les Trois Rois! As one of the last paintings ever made before Pollock’s untimely death in 1956, "Moon Vibrations" (c. 1953–55), serves as a culmination of his previous formal experimentations with the materiality of paint. The artist's painterly technique conveys a swirling sense of movement, as if capturing the undulation of water or the glimmering effects of the celestial skies, as is alluded to in the work’s title. The exhibition will explore the trajectory of abstraction in the United States and Europe from the immediate postwar period to the present, tracing artists’ diverse approaches to materiality and gesture.
