Growing up feeling different from the other boys in Kansas, Elliot always had intuitions or “hunches” as he liked to call them and he was almost always right. He had a hunch that he was going to break his mama’s heart when he ran away from home for San Francisco in the middle of the night to get away from trying to act straight to appease the bullies and the beating from his Pa and he was right. He was free at last and he was never going to pretend to be straight to avoid a swirly or a beating ever again. Elliot was O-U-T Loud and rambunctiously proud! But in an age when many gay men were trying to assimilate into society and obtain equal rights, Elliot was often seen by others in the LGBTQ+ community as a throwback. Although he would fall in love pretty much every time he walked down the street, he would still end up at home alone ... until he met Phillip. Phillip loved Elliot just the way he was. Elliot had a hunch that this love and happiness would last forever... and he was wrong. Because Phillip became known as “Victim Number 6” in the growing list of “The Pillow Biters” victims. At first his death was ruled a suicide just like the rest of the victims. Elliot pleaded with the cops and politicians to find this killer but they refused to even acknowledge that Phillip was murdered or that there was any connection between the five other “suicides” and they mocked Elliot for being a “Drama Drag Queen.” Tired of a lifetime of abuse and seeking justice, Elliot enrolled in the police academy and, much to the surprise of all, graduated top of his class. Even while working as a traffic cop Elliot dove into tying the suicides together, turning his “craft room” into “an emporium of alone”, his heroic efforts quickly earned him a detective’s badge and he was assigned to the Tenderloin PD. His refusal to wear anything but Paul Smith designer suits and other flamboyant clothing made it as hard for him to find a partner at the station as it did in the clubs. Until he met Gus (#noahwyle)!
