Residents and a group of international academics are protesting plans to build an airport near Machu Picchu, the famed Inca ruins that are already grappling with overcrowding from tourists. In a petition, the group urges Peru’s president, Martin Vizcarra, to cancel the project, saying the airport "endangers the conservation of one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in the world."
