These Overviews show brightly colored tents at Mount Everest's South and North Base Camps, respectively. South Base Camp is located in Nepal at an altitude of 17,598 feet (5,364 m) and North Base Camp is in Tibet at 16,900 feet (5,150 m). Both camps are used by climbers as rudimentary campsites during their ascent and descent of the 29,029-foot-tall (8,848 m) mountain — Earth's highest point above sea level.
