My PawPaw was a Sgt in the tank mechanics. He served in Japan, the Philippines, Germany and France. After that..he came home. I often wonder especially on a day like today how he dealt with all the friends who didn’t come home. He was always kind and quick to share a smile with his grandkids, but I know he must have quietly carried such a heavy heart for the remainder of his years. Today, I remember all the men and women(the friends, the fathers, the mothers, the brothers, the children)we have lost and the sacrifices they made for us to live as we do. 📷📷 from the Bob Hope U.S.O. show staging area, Arles,France July 1945. #memorialday

I was a medic in the Army and served in Iraq in 2004 and 2005. I can tell you now, almost 15 years later, guilt for surviving when so many other better soldiers and better people did not is something I continue to struggle with. It's not something you can just walk away from. From one soldier to another I thank your PawPaw for everything he did for our country. Hooah!

My uncle served for a short time in Vietnam, I think, before losing his battle to a brain tumor in 2005. 14 years later and I still remember the hug he gave me in the hospital right before he died. Will always respect the military and the sacrifices made on a daily basis❤️

Thank you. I am also very grateful for all the soldiers around the world who fight during WW2. My grandpa' fought as well. He lived closed to Vichy, city close to the Petain (french president). Heavy times. I will never forget all the sacrifices. Love wins❤️

My grandfather served in tank mechanics in Japan and moved on to help bring injured soldiers in to be assessed, he came home but passed away a few weeks ago. I understand what you are saying here❤️
