What a way to kick off Memorial Day weekend! Today's #MetCameo comes from @ジュディ・グリア:
"Princesse spoke to me because she is so regal and sitting so nicely, but with portraits like these, I always wonder what the heck she is thinking. And if she always dressed like that. And how long it took. And what was the REAL relationship with painter and subject...what was she listening to as she sat. Was she feeling sick already? Shortly after she got sick and passed away. I wonder if she was feeling sick already. And I wonder what she looked like when she smiled."
🎨 Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (French, 1780–1867). Joséphine-Éléonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassac de Béarn (1825–1860), Princesse de Broglie, 1851–53. Oil on canvas. Robert Lehman Collection, 1975. On view in Gallery 957. #TheMet
