With nearly 200 images on display, @lizjohnsonartur's new exhibit at the @ブルックリン美術館 looks and feels expansive. In the grander scheme of Johnson Artur’s archive, however, the show barely scratches the surface. Beyond the sheer width and breath of her archive, there’s a stand-alone power in each image that sets this body of work apart, one that speaks to a sense of kinship, trust, and mutual respect rarely shared between photographer and subject. “In a way, my archive is about trying to find people on an everyday level, on eye level as I like to say,” she says. “When I approach someone, I tell them I’m working on an archive.
