At the foot of any quality advance base camp always lives a formidable monster. In this case here it was #Poumaka, a chossy monolith of volcanic rock dressed in mud and vertical jungle that peered down on us day and night. For the better part of 3 weeks we stared up at it, when the weather was clear enough, with mixed emotions of awe and loathful dread. It was a filthy battle, one that @mikelibecki lead in its entirety, dragging @アンジー・ペイン @andy_mann and I up with inexplicable optimism that I’ve seen from him time and time again. In hind sight it’s all good, all funny and a shiny memory I relive with a smile but I’m smart enough to know that it was all different at the time. Mike and @cheynelempe returned 2 years later to face the island once again, their film will be playing at Telluride Mountain Film and I can’t wait to see it.
