The #muse here is the artist’s wife Georgette Berger, who is depicted in a classical manner – resembling a #marble #sculpture or mythical figure as much as a live model. This traditional representation is juxtaposed with the cool colouring, as her upper body gradually acquires the tone of the sky behind her. The first owner of the #painting was the artist’s brother Raymond, a successful business who supported René by buying his pictures, particularly in the early stages of his career.
