As it turned out, KEN was an extraordinarily kind man, who was playing Mr. Do! at a higher level than I was. I imagine it is how a kid who is good at a sport in high school feels the first time they encounter another kid, at college, and discover the the best from another town is orders of magnitude better than the best in their town. I was the best in my town, but I wasn't even CLOSE to being the best on the [VACATION LOCATION REDACTED]. That honor belonged to KEN. I was but a distant second. When I got home from my mysterious voyage, I made it my greatest task to defeat KEN in absentia, illegitimate though the victory may be. It took a lot of practice and many, many tries, but I finally got a higher score than KEN. I will not insult your intelligence or waste your valuable time by pretending this victory did not mean a great deal to me. That high score sat atop my leaderboard for a great many days and weeks, as I endeavored to make my personal best just a little bit better. Tonight, I accomplished something that mere weeks ago was unthinkable: my lowest high score is higher than the high score KEN had on the machine upon which our contests were joined.
