金曜日、岐阜県に400年前から伝わる古川祭りを訪ねた後に新幹線で東京へ戻り、土曜の夜は、インディファッション・キッズが集う「吟味」パーティーの渋谷の街へ。時間、場所とも遠くかけ離れた二つのイベントは、しかし、日本の国民性の抗いがたい魅力でもある、仲間の絆を深め合う祝い事のこころによって結ばれていた。それこそは、自分が過去数年かけて撮りため、近々公開を始めたいと考えている多数の写真のテーマである。

Last Friday I visited the the 400 year old Furukawa Matsuri in Gifu Prefecture before taking the bullet train back to Tokyo for the indie fashion kid party ‘Ginmi’ in Shibuya on Saturday night. Two unique events separated by time and place yet connected by a celebratory spirit of tribalism which is a compelling aspect of Japanese national identity. These themes are the subject of a larger body of photography I’ve been working on for the past few years and am looking forward to start releasing soon. This little film captures some end of Heisei era energy on a Shōwa era camcorder.
