Turner—born April 23, 1775—drew on his considerable experience as a marine painter and his brilliance as a watercolorist to show the foundations of the palaces of Venice merge into the waters of the lagoon through delicate reflections. He exhibited this canvas to wide acclaim at the Royal Academy, London, in 1835.⠀
