Good Friday and Easter Monday are not public holidays in the states so Easter feels like a much bigger deal here! Pudding’s day care had an Easter Breakfast where we got to eat these hot cross buns. I had actually been buying them at the grocery store not knowing that they were an Easter thing! The birth of the hot cross buns date back to the 12th century when a monk baked some buns and marked them with a cross to honor Good Friday. And although you can buy them at any Coles or Woolworth’s quite easily these days lol back in the late 16th century the sale of hot cross buns were forbidden at any time other than burials, Good Friday, and Christmas. They were thought to have a magical powers warding off bad spirits and protecting from fires and other dangers.
