In Memoriam of David Lama, Jess Roskelley, and Hansjörg Auer // What's newsworthy here isn't the tragedy that's unfolded. What's truly newsworthy is the caliber of athlete and human these young men were. The tragedy of their early passing is only compounded by the interest and drama surrounding this event. The mountains cast long shadows, but it's important that we don't dwell there. Rather, celebrate the accomplishments of the athletes who venture there while they live. Now is a time for reverence and quiet reflection reserved for the families and friends in the wake of their untimely passing.

I don't know their personal history but knowing the one of Ballard and Nardi that recently died on Nanga Parbat I ask myself why would you die and leave your dearest as your young mom did and why would you die and leave you six months old son,why on earth such an egoistic choice. But it is only my point of view, as valid as the one of people whose only will is to set their limits further on the highest and most stunning mountains.

On the one hand, I ask, what if those three had been my son's or brothers. On the other hand, I ask how proud I would be of their accomplishments and their experiences if they were my sons or brothers. Much respect for them yet so sad for those who will feel their loss.

Dear Cory may I ask: does the loss of the three giants and friends probably (Lama, Auer, Roskelly) at M16 have an effect on your plans, approach in climbing, security measures the next years? I wish you good luck with the fantastic inspiring things you do.

If there's an ilustration for "epic" in the dictionary this would be it. Just wow. ?
