Notre-Dame has been a symbol of the beauty and history of Paris for generations. Today, the iconic spire of the cathedral caught fire and eventually collapsed. Though the cause is still unclear, officials reportedly have said that it could be linked to renovation work on the historic site. Crowds gathered on the streets and bridges of Paris to watch and mourn as around 400 firefighters were deployed to the cathedral to work to contain the flames.
