Chim↑Pom: Threat of Peace (Hiroshima!!!!!!) at Art in General Curated by Jason Waite Opening Reception: Thursday, April 18, 6-9pm April 19-July 13, 2019 We are happy to let you know about our latest solo exhibition focusing on our Hiroshima-related works at Art in General in New York from April 19. Highlighting the legacy of nuclear power from Hiroshima to Fukushima, the show will also feature Non-Visitor Center by Don’t Follow the Wind, an ongoing exhibition opened on March 11, 2015, consisting of on-site artworks by 12 participating artists in the Fukushima nuclear exclusion zone. Making the Sky of Hiroshima “PIKA!” is an artwork in which we chartered an airplane to skywrite the mimetic word describing the atomic bomb, layering the fading reality of the bombing with the disappearing clouds. The sudden action triggered confusion among the public and led the museum involved in planning the work to request our cancellation of the scheduled exhibition. We published a book in 2009 to reflect on the controversy and have continued producing work on the themes of Hiroshima and nuclear power since then. Starting with Hiroshima! shown in Tokyo in 2009, we have added an exclamation mark to each new iteration; Threat of Peace (Hiroshima!!!!!!) will be the very first exhibition to show these works in the United States. The show will also include a new video work for Non-Burnable––a project that highlights the mountains of paper cranes that Hiroshima City receives from all around the world as a symbol of peace, which then become stored in warehouses and marked as “Non-Burnable Trash”––as well as documentation of sending mail to Kim Jong-un and Donald J. Trump. The venue for our second solo exhibition in New York since MoMA P.S.1 in 2011 is Art in General, an art space founded by two artists in 1981 and renown for providing figures such as Marina Abramović, Gabriel Orozco, and Glenn Ligon with their first New York exhibitions. We highlight the complex relationship between the United States as the country that dropped the A-bomb and Hiroshima.」4月16日 0時44分 - elliechimpom
