The Moroccan Window pendant was carved in 1974 during one of young Alex’s trips to Tangiers. One evening, as he sat drinking coffee and smoking hashish in the old Casbah district, he looked up and saw through a nearby window one of the most brightly shining stars he had ever seen. He reached for a paper and pen, and sketched a quick outline of the scene which he then later transformed into a 3 dimensional wax carving. The bright star became a pentagram, a symbol that can be found all over the art and architecture of Morocco. This piece marks Alex’s first use of a pentagram, a theme that would later appear in many of his works.
