Ojai is the only place in the world where pixies are grown. The citrus fruit is native to this region, but is actually the result of science, not nature. Researchers at the University of California Riverside developed it inside a lab in the 1950s, and released the hybrid crop to the public in 1965. However, due to the fruit’s asymmetrical shape and irregular picking season, experts never thought pixies would hold commercial value.

Boy, were they wrong.
