Spiders are usually recognised to evoke fear, terror and disgust, but Bourgeois saw making art as a way to fight fear. When we have feelings of sadness, self-doubt or we're just overwhelmed by the world around us, let us look to Maman as a mammoth, matt-black beacon of strength, beauty, and restorative power.
