Brahma is a 33 year old Red-Headed (Pondicherry) Vulture that was recently transferred to us from the Palm Beach Zoo. He is the only individual of his species in the United States, and one of only 20 in captivity in the world. Red Headed Vultures are critically endangered in the wild due to poisoning from anti-inflammatory drugs and poaching. Very little is known about the species or how long they can live in captivity, since there are so few. The flaps on their face are used for heat regulation, and they can weigh from 7-14 lbs with an 8 1/2 ft wingspan. We are very excited to add this special boy to our avian family!
