Photos by @nicholesobecki | As National Geographic explores changing urban spaces, I had the chance to return to Dar es Salaam, the economic capital of Tanzania and one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. There was something I especially enjoyed about how the city lit up when the sun went down, changing its texture, as all spaces do at night. Dar’s population has increased eightfold since 1980 and swells by half a million people every year. It’s projected to grow from today's six million to vaunted “megacity” status of 10 million before 2030. To get to know this vibrant Swahili coastal city, take a look at our story “This Tanzanian city may soon be one of the world’s most populous. Is it ready?"
