It is called the Bush dog and it is in the genus Speothos. The Bush dog is most commonly found in remote parts of Suriname, Guyana and Peru. Fossilized remains of the Bush Dog were found before living specimens which led researchers to think they were extinct. The Bush dog is thought to be related to the South American foxes/Canids although its unique dentition shows similarities to the Indian Dhole and the African painted dog. Like several other Canids they are found in packs which allows them to take prey much larger than themselves. Bush dogs only weigh about 20 lbs but when hunting in a pack they can take down a 500 lb. tapir. Unfortunately their conservation status is considered near threatened. This status is largely due to habitat destruction.
