In celebration of the centenary of Wu Guanzhong’s birth, our Fine Chinese Paintings sale in #HongKong on 2 April features six works by the artist. In 1990, Guanzhong was invited to Hong Kong by the Land Development Corporation, where he painted ‘Deyun Tea House’, one of the oldest tea houses in the city. Hugely popular in the local community, it was demolished in the 1990s as part of an urban renewal plan. A charming sketch of Montmartre and an enchanting view of a white birch forest in Xinjiang display Guanzhong’s characteristic handling of brush and ink.
