Fun City Tattoo was founded by legendary tattoo artist Jonathan Shaw in 1976, 20 years prior to the legalization of tattooing in NYC. At a time when tattooing was exploding as an international art-form, current owner “Big Steve” Padone started as a shop assistant in the mid-90’s learning from the very master who had orchestrated its cultural renaissance. In 2013, with his partner Maxx Starr from Richmond, Virginia, Steve bought Fun City Tattoo and has since come to be recognized as one of the top, and easily most versatile, tattoo artists in the world. A deep respect for the tradition of tattooing allows Maxx and Steve to blend the old with the new as the art adapts to modern times. Our collaborative capsule collection consists of a hoodie and two long sleeve t-shirts, all donning sketch style graphics that were designed by @bigstevenyc. The pieces will be available at our pop-up at 3 Howard St. and online at publicschoolnyc.com as of Thursday, March 28th.
