Ever since we got back from our trip to the Monterey Aquarium last year, where they learned about the massive amount of garbage that ends up in the ocean, Mazzy and Harlow have been paying extra attention to all the plastic we use. Since then, they’ve motivated me to make the jump to metal straws, start using reusable snack bags, and I always carry around my Mommy Shorts tote instead of using plastic bags from the store. These are all small changes, but even small changes can make a big impact. Recently, we were introduced to @SeventhGeneration's new recycled toilet paper and decided to give it try. Did you know that if every household in the US replaced a 4 pack of 240 sheet virgin fiber toilet paper with recycled toilet paper, we could help save over 740,000 trees??? Just think about what a difference a permanent change could make! Changes that will mean the most to our children who will be on this earth a lot longer than we will. No wonder my kids care so much!

I love this idea!!! We too have tried to cut down on our plastic usage. My favorite product find so far are Bamboo straws from Maui! We have stainless steel and glass straws, but bamboo is by far the favorite! No funny taste 🙌🏼 @wahihawaii carries amazing straws, check them out! Honu (🐢) friendly. 🌺🌴💚

Yay! Many props for making these seemingly small, yet impactful changes. As a santa cruz (Monterey bay area) mama, I have a great appreciation for families trying make these kinds of choices. Convenience is king with kiddos but once you give it a shot, reusable bags and stayed are not so bad 🌎

This is so awesome! You should check out the TED talk by Greta Thunburg. She’s an amazing young female environmental activist who has now been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. She could be a great inspiration for Mazzy and Harlow. 🌿🌱🍃

When we lived in Hong Kong we were not allowed to pack anything disposable in the kids lunch- they actually checked everyday to make sure! Sounds harsh but it taught my son about waste and sustainability very young👌 Awesome post!

We have a few and I bought pipe cleaners (chenille stems) to make sure they get scrubbed out very well. Once a month I soak all the straws in a tub of bleach water along with the travel mug lids. Make sure they stay clean.

my girls just introduced me to glass straws. they are older (14/17) so im ok with it in terms of safety. 😊 they dont have that occasional odd metal straw taste and they are easy to keep clean.
