#IWD2019 • Men have been trying for hundreds of years to silence women and keep us in our place. We are told we are weak, we are inferior, we are less. For years they have been trying to keep us down.... but look at us. We are still here, still surviving, still fighting. They’ve tried to keep women in the home, but we are leading the resistance- from the civil rights era to Ferguson to Palestine. They tell trans women they aren’t “real” women; they try to demonize poor women, black women, immigrant women, and those who don’t submit to their binary view of gender. Despite all of their efforts to suffocate us, women, trans women, and non-binary folks continue to lead movements and fight for liberation. ✊

Those who came before us struggled and fought in the face of immense violence and opposition. It should give us great hope knowing the horrors they endured, and yet, they never quit or gave in, and we are the result of their struggle. Resistance is in our bones. ✊

So I want to wish a happy International Women’s Day to all of the women, trans women, lesbians, mothers, black women, indigenous women, incarcerated women, disabled women, survivors of domestic & sexual violence, immigrant women, & gender non-conforming people who continue to exist and live and fight, who breathe fire in the face of patriarchy and white supremacy. May we all stand together in solidarity as we fight for a new world ✨
