Internally displaced people (IDP) stand on a hillside in Riyadh camp in Geneina, West Darfur, March 2007. Sudanese were being displaced to IDP camps within Darfur due to ongoing intimidation and violence by Arab nomads, allegedly backed by the Sudanese government. Since the beginning of the war in Darfur, over two million people were displaced from their villages throughout the region, and hundreds of thousands were killed, while many Darfurians were struggling with malnutrition, malaria, and respiratory infections. —To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re posting images of and by incredible women across the globe.
