Libby is a captive bred US fox and while raised by Humans, is not domesticated. Some folks indicate that since her origins are in fur farming she is domesticated - but that would be domesticated for fur- being selectively bred for many generations for coat quality and color- to be killed for the fashion industry. Libby is not genetically tame. She was rescued from a farm in Virginia. Since we did not rescue her until she was about 7 months of age, we are limited to the impact we have on her training and socialization. . The personalities of the captive bred, non Russian domesticated foxes vary greatly. Unfortunately, how tame they are isn’t going to be known until after they reach sexual maturity. In comparison, our Russian domesticated foxes are mother raised, limited human interaction and we did not receive until they were 1 yr old. They have no aggression towards humans, non-resource guarding behavior, and were able to be around strangers immediately.
