While I was there I saw this incredible art work of a Dhimal Embroidery originating from the Dhimal Community from Eastern Nepal. 25 years ago, a group of Dhimalis came to ACP for work. They were wearing dresses with this embroidery. Dhimal embroidery is inspired from the tattoos adorning their bodies and also the embroidery they do on their dresses.
ACP saw the opportunity in the embroidery and started promoting it, creating work for them.
I was so moved by the powerful beauty and strength of the art with which they adorned themselves that I was immediately inspired by it for our Spring 2019 collection. The embroidery done by the artisans took them 9 days, an average of 9 hours per day, which involved 21 artisans per day. A total of 187 artisans were involved in the work.
