In 1952, artist #EllsworthKelly created “Red Yellow Blue White,” a set of panels made from brightly dyed cotton. He then asked his friend Anne Weber to sew the leftover fabric into a dress—a way, he said, “of getting color off the wall and having it walk around the room.” While the original dress survives only in a photograph, Kelly reinterpreted his design in a 2013 collaboration with Francisco Costa, creative director of #CalvinKlein. The resulting color-block sheath merges art and fashion. Don’t miss your chance to see both works in person: the panels are on view in our contemporary galleries and the dress can be seen in “#FabulousFashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now."
