#Repost @loveleorescue ・・・ You guys made a lot of noise yesterday. Your voices were heard and the police department was forced to put out a press release regarding the death of A521342!! THANK YOU! Here is A521342’s impound photo. As many if you know - she passed away in her kennel at the San Bernardino animal shelter. Someone cared enough about her to put a little pink sweater on her. The shelter manager Lt. Macomber ordered her sweater to be removed. And it was. She was spayed at the shelter vet (the equivalent of a hysterectomy - a big surgery). She then spent over a week at their facility in an open air kennel with a thin blanket and what they claim are geothermal heated floors. She was found dead in her kennel. She came into the shelter bright eyed and bushy tailed and left in a garbage bag. That should not happen to a young, healthy dog. Please know - this was in no way an attack on the shelter system. We love working with our local shelters. Many of them know us by name and reach out to us when they have a special medical dog. We respect what they do and realize how difficult their job is. We know many shelters are short on supplies, funds and staff. We understand how hard it is to work in a high volume shelter. However there’s been multiple incidents with the new manager; he has limited volunteers access to the animals, he has taken away sweaters and beds (even though every other shelter in city/county are begging for more beds, more blankets and more sweaters), he refused to let a pregnant dog leave on humane foster (the result was that she and all her puppies became ill with distemper and had to be euthanized ??). And — we fully respect and appreciate the Police Department. We know the challenges that they face and how difficult their job is as well. The issue is that an animal shelter should not be run by the police department. An animal shelter, funded with taxpayer dollars should have someone that has experience in animal welfare. This job requires someone who is willing to work with volunteers, rescues and the public, who has the best interest of the animals in mind, and someone who understands that tiny Chihuahua needs a bed a coat to keep the
