"The New Londoners project started four years ago, thinking of a different way to photograph migration, one of the great issues of our time. I wanted to make a record of these seismic times when it becomes possible to say that all the worlds' nations have come to live in London to create a population of a new kind, turning London into a truly polyglot city, probably the most multi-cultural, multi-ethnic in the world. The work is about the new peoples who are re-making London: a fabulous cross section of world citizens of whom I am a part, living here, working here, learning here, changing here, defining here. I am an immigrant from Burma myself and am part of this book. I am proud to be one of The New Londoners.

Afghanistan: I have worked in Afghanistan and did a book about the country back in the 90s, and have fond and horrific memories. For a country synonymous with war an abiding memory of mine was the warm hospitality of the people. The photo session was more of a party to which friends and faintest relatives were invited. Once I had an interesting arrangement of the family I just asked them to talk to each other and I picked off the rhythmic moments." - @steeleperkins
