« L’amour essayant une de ses flèches » de Jacques Saly est un des chefs-d’œuvre de la marquise de Pompadour. Commandée en 1752 par la maîtresse de Louis XV, l’œuvre fut présentée au roi et exposée au Salon de 1753, alors au palais du Louvre. Elle prit ensuite place dans les résidences de la marquise.

💘La sculpture représente l’Amour, debout, portant un carquois et vérifiant l’affutage d’une pointe de ses flèches. La tendresse de la chair, la délicatesse des ailes ou encore l’expressivité mutine de l’enfant transparaissent dans le taillage de ce marbre délicieux.

🙏🏻 L’Amour a pu rejoindre les collections du Louvre grâce à la participation de la Société des @amisdulouvre et aux multiples donateurs de la campagne #TousMcnes de 2016.

« Cupid trying one of its arrows » by Jacques Saly is one of the masterpieces belonging to the Marquise de Pompadour. Commissioned in 1752 by the mistress of Louis XV, the sculpture was presented to the king and exhibited on the Salon of 1753, at the Louvre Palace. It then took place in the residences of the marquise.

💘 The sculpture represents Cupid, standing, carrying a quiver and checking the sharpening of an arrow point. The tenderness of the flesh, the delicacy of the wings and the child's mutinous expressiveness can be seen in the carving of this delicious marble.

🙏🏻 Cupid was able to join the Louvre's collections thanks to the participation of the @amisdulouvre society and the many donors of the 2016 « Become a patron of love » campaign.
