Learn more about some of the people who are behind Zipp wheels... Today’s #PeopleofZipp is about family. Elizabeth Olarte has worked at Zipp for more than three years in a variety of roles including wheel finishing and spoke-hole drilling. She used to work at the factory next door but found the right fit with Zipp. She enjoys learning, especially about something unusual like making carbon bicycle rims. She likes her co-workers and the hours. Elizabeth’s husband takes the three kids to school; she picks them up. The family, always close knit, has been through much. In 2011, Elizabeth’s oldest daughter, Melanie, was diagnosed with lymphoma. She was in the hospital for six months, eventually receiving a bone-marrow transplant from older brother Noe. Soon after Melanie returned home, Elizabeth’s youngest daughter, Kelly, was diagnosed with Hodgins lymphoma. She was under intensive care for several months, receiving at stem cell transplant at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. “If you see Elizabeth in the plant, she is always smiling and working hard,” said Todd Dygert, Zipp team lead. “From talking with her it's clear that she maintained this same joyful spirit through the incredibly difficult experiences with her kids.” Elizabeth said her kids love riding bikes. She smiles and said, “I never learned!” Elizabeth added that her kids want her to learn so they can all ride together. Go, Elizabeth! #PeopleofZipp #MadeinIndianapolis #zippspeed
