In his series “Kesh Angels,” artist Hassan Hajjaj profiles Muslim female bikers from Marrakesh, Morocco. Each vibrant image challenges stereotypes about Muslim, Arabic women. “Hassan wants us to interrupt ourselves and all the perception that we might have on people, on a culture, and on environment,” says art fair curator Touria El Glaoui. “It is instrumental as it really inspires us to ask questions, but it is also instrumental because it ignites change. Seeing diversity in race and ethnicity in contemporary art is the only way that we'll see changes in the art industry, but also for the relations between Africa and the Western canon.” To see more contemporary art from African nations and the diaspora, visit go.ted.com/africanart
