We woke up to another day of silence. Long, unplowed streets lead to long, unplowed driveways. Pleas for help dominate our neighbourhood website: One asks simply for a shovel. Another begs for help clearing the road to her house, so that someone can remove snow from her flat roof before it collapses. One woman hasn't been able to reach her house since the snow started on Friday. A dog waits inside.
We live in what's essentially a retirement community. Folks move up here from California to enjoy the mild climate at a more reasonable price. 17 inches of rain annually, 2 inches of snow.
As I'm typing this, an alert pops up: "Units on scene of a roof collapse... Injuries." There's another storm predicted for this afternoon.
