First and foremost.
Beef up your skills.
You can’t do anything without skills.
Learn every possible thing you can.
Welding first, you will always need it even if you go into diesel mechanics.
Don’t go to a trade school.
Take a beginning welding class at a local Jr. College. It’s cheap like $150 per semester and you can use all their machines and welding materials. You can probably take classes at night and not mess with your job.
