“We got this”, one penguin appears to be saying to the other, “we’re penguins, we can handle this blizzard”. It’s easy to anthropomorphize a moment like this that I happened to capture while shooting in a snowstorm recently in Antarctica…. But I want to share some photo tips for shooting in blowing snow. You can really create the atmosphere you want in your image by your shutter speed: For example, a fast shutter (1/1000 sec), like in shot 2 of the Adelie’s, freezes the snowflakes in place, giving the nice “Christmas card” effect. While using a slower shutter (1/125 sec) like in shot 3 of the Gentoo Penguin, blurs the snow and conveys that “nasty storm” look. You definitely need a tripod for slow shutter shots. I shot this on my Gitzo Systematic Tripod with a Gitzo Gimbal head. Keep swiping to see some behind-the-scenes shots. @GitzoInspires #FramedonGitzo #TL_WildlifePhotoTips #BTS #wildlifephotography #Antarctica #penguin @NatGeoExpeditions
