President Donald Trump delivered an hour and 20-minute State of the Union speech in which he appealed to lawmakers' sense of unity at a moment of deepening partisan spite. His calls for conciliation -- which did not address his role in inflaming partisan divisions -- were met with mostly stone-faced silence from Democrats.

Delivering the Democratic response, former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams blamed the Trump administration for the longest government shutdown in US history, saying it was a stunt engineered by the President. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During the speech, Trump singled out honored guests including Alice Marie Johnson, a former inmate who was granted clemency by Trump last year. Johnson, whose case garnered support from Kim Kardashian West and others, was moved to tears as the chamber gave her a standing ovation.
