Mazzy and Harlow had their school dance last Friday night. I have no good pictures of it because it was dark, there were children everywhere and nobody stopped moving, so I’m using this instead. But it occurred to me that elementary school is the perfect time to have a school dance. No one has any “dances are lame” feelings, everybody is excited to be there, and EVERYBODY DANCES. For Mazzy and Harlow’s school dance, each grade (k-5) gets taught a different dance in PE that is choreographed by the older grades. When it was their respective turns, Mazzy and Harlow both made sure they were front and center during their dances (Mazzy was there from the beginning, while Harlow weaseled her way up from the back) and I could not have been more thrilled to watch my kids giving the moves their all, in front of all their peers, with no self consciousness whatsoever, thinking this was all part of the coolest display ever. The world would be a better place if everyone danced like elementary school kids ?
