Photo by @beverlyjoubert | We know this lion pride well. The females currently have two eight-month-old cubs and four five-month-old cubs. But when @dereckjoubert and I found the pride early in the morning after a stormy night, they suddenly had another two tiny cubs—clearly not theirs! There were two more females (who we call the Swamp Hunters) in the near vicinity, and we presume one is the mother of these little ones, but they didn't seem to be interested, and their cubs were being bullied by the older ones, making them mewl pitifully. As the large pride had killed a lechwe in the night, we can only assume that the little cubs had been hidden nearby and had confusedly come running when the pride called their own cubs. Now they're stuck with a strange family who are not very welcoming and bullying cubs whose predatory nature can easily get out of control.
