Photo by @gordonwiltsie // Lightning touches down near #MexicanHat Rock, which was briefly on the southern boundary of Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument before President Trump cut its size by 85%. That decision opened most of this spectacular landscape - which the Navajo consider their sacred homeland - to likely oil and gas exploration that will scar it forever. To the Dineh, it’s the equivalent of drilling through the floor of Notre Dame. I shot this image an assignment for the exciting new magazine @Alta, a journal of the American West, and as thunder exploded around me in a deafening roar, I was starkly reminded of the real powers at work here. @altaonline #bearsears #bearsearsnationalmonument #lightning #utah @altaonline
