The Villa Mairea was completed 80 years ago, designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto as a private residence for art collectors and patrons Maire and Harry Gullichsen. The latter gave the Aaltos an open brief and the opportunity to experiment which resulted in a unique and complete work of art that’s attained worldwide recognition as one of the greatest masterpieces of 20th century architecture.
