Celebrating nine incredible years with Adelaide. Nine years ago, I was just laying in a hospital bed and holding her, amazed that she came from my body - that she was a part of me but now outside in the world for me to hold and stare at and continue to love but now in a new way.
It was strange to have her in my arms, after it had just been the two of us for nine months. Just her and I, her kicks and hiccups and her foot in my rib. My rib still aches in that spot sometimes, it ached just last week, and I thought about how she kept me up at night with it, and how sometimes I still lie awake at night and think about how I can protect her, help her grow...and how it’s all going too fast.
She’s one of the most beautiful people I know, both inside and out, and the love and understanding she has for others is deep and profound. She’s traveled and seen and experienced more at nine than many, and I believe that travel has shaped her some, but more than that, the way she moves through the world is because of our family, and the way we love and communicate and work together - as a team. She’s no less, she’s a part of. She often tells us how thankful she is for that, and I love our little trio - she makes it all a million times better and more beautiful and magical.
I could go on and on, but it’s time to go celebrate her with ice cream and bowling - the two things she asked for...because she said she didn’t need gifts, just time with us.
