California Senator @KamalaHarris is officially running for president in 2020.
Harris, a first-term Democratic senator who described herself as "a joyful warrior" to Vogue in 2018 made the announcement this morning, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in a nod to the historic nature of her run—a bi-racial woman born to immigrant parents from Jamaica and India, she would be the first African American woman to be a major party nominee for the presidency if she ultimately secures the Democratic nomination—and the civil rights movement that made it possible.
Harris' campaign simultaneously launched her campaign video with her announcement, which promotes unity and bears the tagline: "We know America can be better than this—but it's on us to build it.
