Andrew Bolton, the head curator at the @metcostumeinstitute, has in his 17 years at the @メトロポリタン美術館 composed not only the most visited exhibition in The Met’s history, but four of its top visited exhibits of all time. No master is without his tools, of course. Bolton’s lexicon of approximately 33,000 fashion ensembles lives underground below the museum, somewhere between Fifth Avenue and Central Park, in the Costume Center's brand new archive. The new space replaces the former, originally built in 1971, with state of the art modern technologies allowing for the monitoring of any pests, the reduction of light, and the ultimate in climate control. Between 2010 and 2011 all 33,000 ensembles were moved out. The archive was completed in part in 2014, and every item was returned to its new home by the summer of 2017.
