Morning! Happy Sunday! On Sundays my social channels are donated to a different student involved in our #PutAPriceOnIt campaign from our @yearsofliving team to talk about carbon pricing. If you aren’t already involved, now is a good time to jump in and read! Today's post comes Ava Moattar, a student at Cascadia Community College in Washington State. Thank you Ava! “I’ve lived as a minority my whole life and have witnessed and experienced a lot of social injustices. Our community has always been the first to experience the pressures that everyone will eventually face because we are the most vulnerable.  During my second year of college, I got involved in fighting the climate crisis. As I kept doing more research about it, it became clear to me that the largest polluters, the ones who bring the most harm to our environment, get away with it so easily. It was infuriating to me because laws are written to prohibit people from wrongdoing, punish the ones who have harmed others, and to hold up society’s moral standards. Their enforcement is necessary to teach us that no one is above the law. This is what justice sounds like to me. That’s why putting a price on carbon matters so much to me. It’s all about taking responsibility for our actions, especially the ones that are affecting millions of people. Putting a price on carbon is important to me because it guarantees a safe transition to renewable and clean energy by forcing money to flow back into struggling communities. This is a way of investing in people, showing that they are cared for and that every single one of them matters. It’s also a safe path leading us to the future of this world as other countries are committed to switching to clean energy.”
